Wychwood School
Individuality has always been more important than conformity to Wychwood. Miss Lee, a brilliant Oxford scholar, had a clear vision when she founded our school in 1897: that girls should find confidence to think and work independently, and that the opinions of all should be heard and valued. Her legacy continues to inspire our work at this small and friendly school.
Wychwood girls have opportunities for success in many directions, from academic excellence to outstanding value-added results. We ensure that each has our attention and total support.

Our school started with one pupil. We now have up to 150: full boarders, weekly and flexi-boarders and day girls. For many years we have found this to be the right number for harmonious living. This is a vibrant and family-like school with a culture of belonging and responsibility.
Academic standards are high at Wychwood, but excellent results are not our only measure of success. Teaching, especially in the exam years, is in small classes where every girl can contribute. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own progress, learning study skills which will serve them long after they have left school.

Our boarders are secure and comfortable. Small groups of mixed ages share homely bedrooms and, as rooms and companions change term by term, everyone soon has friends throughout the school. Younger girls are guided, supported and encouraged by seniors, who in turn gain much of their role as ‘older sisters’. Every new girl has a Housemother in the same bedroom to offer help, advice and friendship.
