St Edward's Oxford

St Edward’s is a co-educational boarding school from 13 – 18 situated in the north of the city providing an excellent all-round education for each individual in its care.

With approximately 100 academic scholars and exhibitioners, St Edward’s offers a challenging environment where every pupil has the chance to be a leader. Recently named as a school in the top 10 destinations for prospective parents, and described in its school inspection (March 2008) as ‘a remarkable school’, St Edward’s has good reason to be proud.

Academic rigour is the cornerstone of the development of St Edward’s: the school has a 1 in 8 teacher/pupil ratio and in the last five years 56 pupils have won places to Oxford and Cambridge Universities. This year’s ‘A’ Level results were excellent with 75% at A and B grades. The inspectorate described the teaching at St Edward’s as ‘enabling pupils of all abilities to think for themselves and enjoy success’. Pupils also achieve success in sport, the arts and music and around 40 pupils each year are successful in gaining gold/silver Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

St Edward’s is undergoing an exciting programme of development: The North Wall Arts Centre is an inspirational new building dedicated to an array of cultural events, educational opportunities and world class performances for the people of Oxford and beyond, whilst the new science building is a flagship in sustainable design setting new eco-standards for schools. The laboratories boast state-of-the-art equipment rarely found in British schools.

Music is a great strength at St Edward’s and many pupils are members of national orchestras and choirs. The school delivers 500 instrumental music lessons every week, taught by highly qualified and experienced staff, and the department holds in excess of 60 concerts during the academic year.

St Edward’s has always had a strong sporting tradition allowing pupils with the potential to become elite sportsmen and women. The number of boys and girls reaching county and national levels continues to grow.

76% of pupils are full boarders and so the school buzzes with life in the evenings and at weekends. Day pupils are fully integrated into the 11 boarding houses which are single sex and vertically grouped.

This all makes St Edward’s an excellent ‘all round’ school and a safe and reliable first choice.
