Headington School

Set in 23 acres of playing fields and gardens just a mile from central Oxford, Headington is a vibrant boarding and day school with an international outlook. Despite our place in the academic first division, our real strength lies in a commitment to meeting the needs of each individual pupil. From our flexible boarding options to our broad range of extra curricular activities, Headington is a place where each pupil is encouraged to discover and explore her own strengths and interests.

Full, weekly, flexible and occasional boarding are all available, and around one third of our 750 pupils board. With over 30 nationalities represented, our boarding community plays a key role in maintaining the international character of the school. Some boarders stay all term; others drop in for the night when their parents are away. Each of our four boarding houses has a distinct character, from Davenport, the rambling Victorian villa that is home to our youngest boarders (aged from 9 upwards), to Celia Marsh, the Sixth Form boarding house attached to our Sixth Form Centre. Modern Napier accommodates both GCSE and A level students in single and twin bedrooms, and homely Hillstow is tailored to slightly younger girls.

A busy schedule of weekend and after school activities means that there is never a dull moment for Headington’s boarders. From high-rope adventures to strawberry picking and from jewellery making to martial arts, there’s something to suit all tastes. Staff and prefects are on hand to help with evening prep, and the school’s grounds provide a safe space for girls to relax when work is over.

Our ambitious development programme has furnished the school with a new dining hall, art building, 260-seat professional theatre and Napier, our newest boarding house. Ongoing projects include an Astroturf pitch, scheduled for completion in winter 2008, and a state-of-the-art new music block will open its doors in summer 2009.
