The Dragon School is a day and boarding preparatory school for boys and girls aged 4 to 13. The school has a comparatively informal ethos with a record of excellent all round academic, sporting and creative excellence. Boarding from age 8 is at the heart of this happy and purposeful school noted for its zest for life and confident, articulate pupils.
Wide ability, great results
There is no competitive entrance exam and the Dragon encourages ability and talent in every field. Pupils and staff are enthusiastic, enquiring and often highly innovative in their approaches to a wide curriculum and vast range of activities. Dragons achieve outstanding results and go on to a wide range of the finest senior independent schools – 50 pupils won awards or scholarships in 2008.
Growing with the child
When they join at age 8, boys and girls have their own school within a school where they learn and play together. As they progress, pupils use the excellent facilities of the main school and enjoy the spacious grounds in a way that prepares them very well for life at their next school.
Boarding boys and girls
Cosy family houses, which are a particular feature of the school, are real term time homes for the younger boarders. Houseparents, with children of their own, live with the children and look after their welfare and progress. Older boarders live in bigger houses where their confidence grows amongst a larger group of friends. Boarding weekends are busy and fun, packed with activities, games and outings. There are also lots of opportunities to be at home on exeats and generous holidays.
International Dragons
Dragon pupils come from many places – some from Oxford and surrounding counties, many from London. More than 15% travel home to parents living and working overseas in many different countries.
